Very rare original Mark Twain hand signed personal gift given on the occasion of his 67th birthday dinner. This copper etched self portrait is one of just 53 in existence, one for each of the personally invited guests. Each was personally named with a unique annotation written and signed by Mark Twain Himself. This particular one was presented to Irish American banker Daniel O'Day (1844-1906), a known associate of Mark Twain, with the personal message 'Mr Daniel O'Day - With the kindest regards of Mark Twain'. Comes in original inner and outer sleeve along with a photograph of Daniel, inner sleeve has Mr O'Days name embossed in gold leaf. Inner protective boards split and detached and some wear to outer protective sleeve, otherwise complete and in good order. A very rare and important slice of American history. Copper plaque measures 7.5 x 13.5cms
